TIPS | TENERIFE - A Must See Destination

The Canary Islands has been one of the places on the team's bucket list, and when deciding the next destination, it was a decision that didn't take a lot of convincing.

Made up of seven islands in Spain, from largest to smallest: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

There really is no best time to visit Tenerife in terms of weather, as the climate is subtropical and desertic, so generally the average temperature ranges from 20-24 degrees Celsius (69-74 degrees Fahrenheit).

To travel to Tenerife from Toronto, we flew with Brussels Airline and had 1 connecting flight. There isn't a direct flight to Tenerife Spain, so if you are the traveller that likes to have a direct flight, our recommendation is to use one of the charter, or private jet options.

From Brussels we flew into Tenerife and immediately it gave us Mexico vibes. The dry Mountains, the highway setup, the people, were all similar to Mexico and it's culture.

We stayed at The Royal Hideaway Corales Resort - Adults Only. Beautiful Luxurious resort in the shape of a ship, is made up of 121 luxurious rooms, with a design inspired by the sea corals. Located on the Southern part of Tenerife, in Costa Adeje, located 10 mins away from the city and very close to one of the many black beaches. It has been named the new Best Hotel in Europe 2018 according to the European Hospitality Awards. The staff were extremely friendly, and ensured your every need was met. Immediately you could tell this hotel paid close attention to detail from the entrance of their lobby to the detail in the bathroom of their luxury suites, it was an experience that you would not want to end. Their sister location which is the family-friendly resort is The Royal Hideaway Corales that you also have access to.

The room's views were spectacular overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and the resort. We stayed in a Junior Suite that included a private balcony with a Jacuzzi.

Tenerife is known for it's black beaches, Mt. Teide (a world heritage site -being is an active volcano), and Santa Cruz's beach which has imported sand from Sahara desert. We visited Mt. Teide which has a 3,718 metres as the highest point. While we did not go up the mountain, we did see the beautiful surroundings and felt the shock of weather change. Our clocks on our phones changed to Mountain time, something we had never experienced before.
We also visited the Masca Valley and Garachico, one of Spain’s highest villages, and the famous dragon tree located in Valle de la Orotava.

Tenerife is definitely a destination that is worthwhile to visit, and is definitely on our list of places to recommend.
