Tourism Day, how will you celebrate?

While we can most certainly travel right now, not all of us are feeling entirely comfortable whether it is COVID or the fact that we have to quarantine for 14 days upon our return here in Canada, because let's face it we are still in a pandemic.

Some of us, took advantage of the great weather this past summer, and explored our own province/state and essentially became tourists in our own country.  A lot of people look at travel as escapism, or a change in scenery, but some of us realized we have beautiful places only a few hours drive from home that can satisfy our craving to travel.

Tourism day was established by The United Nations World Tourism Organization to promote sustainable, responsible, and universally accessible tourism. As most of you know, tourism benefits both the tourist and the locations visited, and is a major economic growth driver.  To this end they’ve put together the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, to help increase the benefits of tourism while minimizing its impact and protection of the people, cultures, and environments of the locations people go to visit and experience.

So how does one celebrate tourism day in a pandemic?

  • Well, if you live in a tourist destination, becoming involved in how tourism works in your area by helping to protect the local heritage, cultural sites, and history for those who want to come to see it;

  • Raising awareness about the industry and the different challenges it faces;

  • Using your voice to speak up about those who work in the tourism sector for better working conditions;

  • Promote hidden gems of your country whether via social media or by word of mouth to others to help increase its popularity and putting it on the map;

  • Dreaming of your bucket list and making plans to visit

We hope some of these options helps you to decide how you would like to celebrate this amazing day.

I would love to hear how you enjoyed your summer as a tourist and share some of your amazing experiences from this summer!

Happy Traveling,
